5 tips to help you stay motivated with exercise

We share five simple ways to help you stay motivated when exercising

We KNOW the exercise is good for us...but maintaining that motivation can be tough for everyone.

1. CHANGE YOUR PERSPECTIVE

Your motivation and commitment starts in your head so it's time to change your mindset. Whether it's leaving positive postit notes around the house or setting reminders on your phone...do whatever you can to start believing in yourself. Small daily steps add up and once you believing in yourself it makes your fitness journey easier.

2. SET A GOAL

We know that goal setting is effective for work...but it's the same for exercising! Set realistic goals and milestones that you CAN achieve. If you set them too high...your motivation will dip even further. It's also important to make sure you can actually adapt your life around meeting the goal.

3. SCHEDULE A REGULAR WORKOUT TIME

Routine is key! May sound crazy but scheduling your exercise time is a great way to ensure you actually do it. Waking up in the morning and thinking "Ill do a run later today" generally means it won't actually happen. Find a time of the day that works for you and set reminders in your phone to stick to this.

4. THINK FUN AND VARIETY

We like variety to help us stay motivated so try and mix up your exercise to ensure you actually enjoy it too! Just because everyone around you is running...that doesn’t mean you have to. Running is not the only way to improve your health...try a range of fitness options until you actually benefit physically and mentally.
Workout variety also challenges your body in unique ways, which may introduce you to new muscle groups you didn’t even know you had.

5. REACH OUT TO OTHERS FOR SUPPORT

Try exercising with someone else to help motivate you. Whether it's a PT or a friend...chose someone that works for you. Make sure it's someone who enjoy exercise or who shares a common goal...this will help avoid you discouraging each other and ending up in a pub garden instead! Consider joining a social networking site or online community with fitness trainers and nutrition experts — and support from other people trying to lose weight and maintain healthy eating and exercise routines. There are plenty of these out there!

Whatever you do...make sure it benefits you mentally and physically. AND remember to start off easy and carefully to avoid injury!
