Birthing Trauma Therapy

Supporting Parents with Birthing Trauma

Birth Trauma

Birth trauma happens when we go through a frightening, stressful or distressing event which is related to birth. It can develop into postnatal post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), which is a type of anxiety disorder.

Witnessing traumatic events can also lead to symptoms of PTSD, so partners can experience it too.

Some feel significantly changed after experiencing an unexpected or unplanned for event associated with birth and can find themselves going over and over an event, but nothing seems to change in terms of associated feelings. It is useful to remember that it is actually never the event in itself - but the meaning that is attached by the subconscious mind (either during or immediately after the incident) and once these pathways are in place, rethinking these events only serves to strengthen these networks. Without assistance, it can be incredibly challenging to break the bonds of these related neural pathways. Hypnosis is a proven tool to assist in rewiring these networks. The memories will remain – it is the feelings that are positively altered. Some women may experience symptoms of depression, anxiety or obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). Others may show symptoms of trauma or go on to develop post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

What happened to you?

It is a truth that pregnancy and birth on occasion, can leave individuals with feelings that are so hard to put into words – either to ourselves, or to our partners and our families. Some experience a disconnect from self and from those who should be closest to us at a time, we are told, which should be the happiest in our lives. This is where hypnosis and the use of Rapid Transformational Therapy® steps into its power to assist you to make sense of these events and feelings, helping you to get back to you.

As a qualified and registered midwife of many years’ experience, I am able to talk through happenings with you on a clinical level – helping you to understand how events played out as they did. Sometimes when we are in the centre of an experience it is difficult to gain perspective on this. You understand that you are changed, but are unable to ascertain why. Unpacking your personal story of birth can shine a light on what happened to you – leaving you with a sense of clarity and understanding.

Once you have this clarity, we can work together through Rapid Transformation Therapy to rewire and recode your feelings about your birth experience. The events remain the same, because your memories are your memories and these remain - but how you feel about these events will be altered. RTT affords you the opportunity to release the negative emotions and to move forwards with your life.
