Reflexology at The Mersea Road Clinic Colchester

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a non invasive complementary health therapy that involves applying pressure to specific areas of the hands and feet in order to balance and relax the whole body.

Reflexology has been around for centuries and has its origins in both China and Egypt.

Reflexologists believe that areas on the feet correspond with organs and systems in the body and by applying treatment to these areas can influence how the body functions.

Reflexologists do not claim to diagnose or cure patients. Reflexology treatment is tailored to the individual patient and works well in conjunction with conventional medicine.

The how, who and what of Reflexology...

How does Reflexology work?

Reflexology has been subject to many clinical trials but most evidence comes from patient experience and reported changes.

We know that by treating the feet you are improving circulation and fluid drainage from the legs which will help a person’s energy and immune functions. In turn the patient may report better digestive or breathing functions as well as feeling more relaxed and calm.

Reflexology is a great way to de-stress and as a result the body will produce less stress chemicals. Chemicals released with stress can be detrimental to many organs and joints in the body.  During a Reflexology treatment many nerves are stimulated in the foot which encourages the removal of waste products, better blood flow and tension relief.

Can anyone have Reflexology?

Anyone of any age can have Reflexology because it is a safe, non invasive, natural therapy.

What to expect from Reflexology treatment

Your Reflexologist will start by taking your medical history. You will then be asked to remove your shoes and socks, sit or lay back. The Reflexologist will then use their hands to apply pressure to the feet.

Treatment may feel mildly uncomfortable in certain areas of the feet but generally treatment is pain free and relaxing. Treatment normally lasts around 50 minutes and a course of treatment maybe recommended.

After treatment patients may feel energised or relaxed and will be encouraged to drink plenty of water.
