We look at how your mattress is linked to poor sleep and ultimately can cause back pain

Research suggests that of those experiencing back pain, around 41% of women and 36% of men said that their back pain could be brought on by sleep.

One of the biggest causes could be your mattress - and the following factors may determine if you need to purchase a new one

▪️ Your mattress should not be too soft or too hard - if you are lying on your side, your spine should be parallel to the mattress and should not sag or bow
▪️ Are you getting a comfortable nights sleep? If not then a common reason may be that your mattress is worm and needs replacing
▪️ Can you feel the springs through the mattress? As obvious as it may seem - this is a clear sign that you need to replace your mattress.
▪️ Is the bed more that 10 years old? Generally it is recommended that we replace our mattress every 7-8 years.
▪️ In addition - your pillow should not be too high or too low so that your neck is a continuation of your straight spine
