Babies & Children

It is a common belief that babies and children should have no physical stresses or strains in their little bodies because they are so young. The reality can be very different.

Birth is one of the most stressful events of our lives. The baby is subject to enormous forces as the womb contracts to deliver the baby against the natural resistance of the birth canal. As a result many babies are born with odd shaped heads, especially if there has been forceps or ventouse intervention to aid delivery.

As the child grows older, problems may become apparent which may have arisen due to ealier strains, trauma (falls or knocks to the head) or indeed retained moulding.

As children grow older the body frame undergoes a number of changes. Not only do the bones and muscles of the body grow and adapt, but so do the bones of the head and face. Growing pains may result from a very rapid growth spurt or increasing sporting activity.

By analyzing, treating and managing the problems associated with growth it is possible to help children become & stay fit and healthy.

Osteopathy is a safe and natural approach to healthcare for all life stages. Osteopaths are able to treat babies and children for complaints attributable to mechanical strains acquired during birth, growth and the activities associated with childhood.
