Corrective
Exercise
Corrective exercise
focuses on the foundations of optimum posture, muscle balance and
‘core’ condition and function. For the athlete or active
person corrective exercise can improve performance, reduce chances
of injury and provide rehabilitation. For those with joint aches
and pains, corrective exercise can correct the imbalance that might
be the ‘root’ cause of their problem.
Corrective Exercise
commonly addresses:
® Degenerative Spine
® Disc Derangements
® Spondylosis and Spondylolisthesis
® Neck & Shoulder Pain
® Knee & Hip Pain
® Posture and Muscle Imbalances
Our Rehabilitation
specialists will empower you with the knowledge to resolve your
own problem. We will enable you to take full responsibility for
your own goals and total recovery.
Core
Stability: Back Pain
Many back problems
can be greatly helped by improving the functions of the abdominal
muscles and those muscles attaching into the lower back (‘the
core’). By providing strength and stability through these
areas, the pressure and therefore the wear and tear placed through
the lumbar spine is greatly reduced.
Whether you
have just endured back surgery, are a house wife, or an Olympiad,
it is vital that the core performs when required or your back will
take the strain and may cause your pain.
A core assessment
from one of our Rehabilitation specialists will analyse which areas
are weak and need strengthening. They will explain their findings
and what the results mean before you are given a safe, sound programme
that you can perform either at home or in the gym.
The aim is for
you to be a living person, free from aches & pains, not someone
too scared to ‘live’ for fear of your back ‘going’.
How
Can Exercise Help You?
Exercise can
be used to help achieve your goals:
v To recover
from injury
v Become pain-free
v Increase your sports performance
v Increase your productivity at work
v Improve your appearance
By using corrective,
traditional and mind body exercise therapy, complex complaints can
be addressed and resolved. Every client’s individuality (there
is no ‘one size fits all’ exercise programme), will
be assessed in a professional manner and ‘conditioned’
for the demands of today’s lifestyle – so preventing
the many postural dysfunctions that emerged over the last 20 years.
What
does a Session Involve?
1st
Appointment – Evaluation
History of Injury
Exercise History
Posture Analysis
Core Stability & Co-ordination
Joint & Muscle Range of Motion
Muscle Balance
Joint Stability
Functional movement patterns
Co-ordination
Lifestyle Assessment
Athlete bio-motor ability assessment (if necessary).
Programme
Design
After the assessment, the results will be analysed and interpreted
in relation to your goals. Your exercise programme will then be
designed, taking into account your lifestyle, time schedule and
equipment availability (often none is needed).
2nd Appointment
– Programme Instruction
You will be
personally guided through each specific exercise and stretch that
is included in the programme that has been designed for you to progressively
achieve your goals.
Programme
Progression
A re-evaluation
and assessment every 4 – 6 weeks is required in order to monitor
your progress, update your programme and gain maximum benefit from
your effort.
What is High
Performance Conditioning?
High performance
conditioning is designed for clients who have completed corrective
exercise sessions or for athletes who are training to be the best
they can be in their given sport.
By addressing
factors such as individual flexibility, functional stability, strength
and power for that sporting endeavour, a programme is designed to
help you develop your body condition and improve your sporting performance.
It is essential that the client is ‘trained’ in functional
movement patterns specific to everyday, work or sporting environment.
Therefore if isolated strength is initially required, the body must
later learn the movement rather than just train individual muscles.
The rehabilitation
or high-performance conditioning programme can only be as good as
the assessment – which is why our rehab specialists spend
the entire first appointment assessing your body and your needs.
