Osteopathy - Why an Osteopath?

Pain Relief

Osteopaths help to reduce tissue inflammation by a number of methods ranging from massage of muscles and connective tissues to manipulation and stretching of joints. This helps to reduce muscle spasm and improve mobility, helping to create a healthier state in which damaged tissues can heal.

Much long term, recurrent pain is caused by degenerative changes in the body’s framework. Nobody can reverse the process of ageing, however Osteopathic treatment using gentle manual techniques on joints, muscles and ligaments may often ease pain, reduce swelling and improve mobility. Pain control is an important part of treatment and the osteopaths at our clinic will always give guidance on simple self help methods to use at home.

Unique Approach

It is the Osteopath’s comprehensive approach to healthcare that makes treatment unique. Osteopaths do not look on patients simply as sufferers but as individuals with their own unique requirements for health. Treatment is designed to treat each individual’s mechanical problems in order to stimulate their own natural healing processes. Osteopaths do not simply treat back problems but look at all the factors contributing to a disturbed state of natural health.

Safety & Regulation

Osteopaths are governed by the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC) which has a legal duty to determine the Standard of Proficiency required for competent and safe practice. It is illegal to call yourself an Osteopath unless you have undertaken the appropriate training and are registered with the GOsC. All the Osteopaths at The Mersea Road Clinic are registered with the GOsC and undertake regular continuing Professional Development to ensure their knowledge & skills remain at the forefront of the profession.
